I am an Irish web developer and UI designer currently living and working in Málaga, Spain.
I am currently available to discuss freelance & contract projects.
When I was a kid I wanted to be either an artist or an astronomer, and actually I ended up doing both. I studied Fine Art for a few years in Dublin (BCFE / NCAD), then dropped out and ended up studying Computational Physics in Trinity College Dublin, then took a year out travelling around South -East Asia, then came back and transferred to Astrophysics. I did my thesis on Galaxies. Or, to be more accurate, on the X-ray emissions of galaxies many millions of light years away that had been detected using the ROSAT telescope.
In 2009, after doing a variety of strange, random jobs (landscape gardening, creative writing, occasional web design), I ended up working for Cambridge University Press on a short-term contract in E-Learning. From this experience I realised how much I missed programing, so decided to return to university to do a Masters in IT in Dublin City University, which I finished in 2011. I then spent six months on a contract for the same university doing research into Artificial Intelligence on The World Wide Mind project. If you want to find out a bit more about AI, a nice introduction is this article in Tim Urban’s amazing blog, Wait But Why.
I’ve worked as a freelance developer / designer for about 5 years now and love it, because of the freedom it give me, and also the fact that I get to work on such varied, interesting projects.
